“Although full-blown allergies to PPD are rare — affecting around one in 250,000 people — trichologist Iain Sallis says the problem is that you can never tell when you might develop one. ‘Even if you have coloured your hair 100 times before, you can become allergic at any time,’ he warns.
Hair-dye manufacturers say nobody should use their products without undergoing a patch test first — applying a small amount of dye to a patch of skin for 48 hours. But these tests are not fail-safe.”*
