Before Henna Hair Dye
A few years ago, I suffered severe allergic reactions to chemical hair dye. When I decided to look for a chemical hair dye alternative, I used a product that I thought was a natural herbal hair dye, called, “black henna”. It was not. Thus my scalp was damaged with both types of hair dye and it took quite a while for my hair to grow back and scalp to heal and feel healthy. I also had a small chemical burn spot from the hair dye, where very little hair grew, in the back of my head at the base of my neck.
At that time, I was quite embarrassed about the condition of my hair because I also sang in front of small audiences at special celebrations and events. Even though I didn't care to, I had to admit that on those occasions, I looked better donning a black hair piece or a wig.

After some researching, I learned about using pure henna and indigo to dye my hair black. I would spend hours and hours, waiting for the pure henna's dye release to occur; then I would follow this up with an application of pure indigo. I was grateful for this method because I finally got my black hair covered. I still had to do a lot to condition my hair and try to get it to grow. My black hair started to grow back very slowly.

My hair condition is probably the healthiest it’s been in years. It is very soft and my curl pattern is looser, which I like. Also, I can easily cover my gray roots as often as needed. This is important because my hair has been growing in quicker lately and I want to cover up the gray roots when they come in. Now I do it naturally and have still experienced positive results. I’m very happy that I no longer have to wait several hours for a traditional henna dye release and that I can dye my hair when I only have an hour or two.
