Easy Hot Oil Treatment Instructions
- Melt coconut oil in microwave safe container (20-30 seconds); Add other desired oils and mix; pour into an applicator bottle (commonly used to apply hair dye). Heat for another 20 seconds.
- Using a spray bottle filled with water, completely wet hair.
- Make sure oil is still warm, but not too hot to touch. Apply oil evenly throughout hair with fingers; then massage scalp and smooth warm oil through to ends of hair.
- Wrap hair in plastic wrap or cap; then cover with soft towel.
- Sit under a hooded/bonnet dryer for 20-30 minutes. Alternative methods: Use a hair steamer or heated towel if you prefer not to use the dryer. You can also simply leave treatment on overnight (cover your pillow with a towel to avoid soiling from leakage).
- Remove plastic wrap/cap and use a gentle natural shampoo, like Imbue Natural Shampoo or Lustrous Henna Shampoo Powder. Note: You can choose to skip this step if you desire, but hair will be extremely oily when attempting to style.
- Follow up with a natural conditioner, like Imbue Natural Conditioner. Note: If you use Lustrous Henna Shampoo Powder, you don’t need additional conditioner.
Other important notes regarding hot oil treatments and hair dye use:
Since you don’t want to strip away the dye, it’s suggested to use a hot oil treatment at least 3-4 days prior to dyeing hair. If you do dye your hair first, then wait three weeks before hot oil treatment.
Please don’t use any oil treatment if you are allergic to any of the ingredients. Stop using if treatment causes any irritations.
