Co-Wash Hair Definition
Simply put, co-washing is the practice of cleansing your hair with conditioner –not shampoo.
Co-washing with the proper condition can bring new life to your hair. A good conditioner should protect, add shine and moisture to your hair.
Co-Wash Hair Care Tips
In order to maintain a healthy appearance, it’s important to hydrate your hair regularly. All hair types will benefit from co-washing. However, since coarse, curly hair is usually excessively dry (due the growth pattern), it will especially benefit from a regular co-wash routine. The natural oils in the scalp of straight hair easily run down the hair shaft to prevent excessive dryness.
To co-wash hair: Use your hands to apply conditioner liberally from roots to ends to wet hair; then comb your conditioner-soaked hair (using a wide-tooth comb) from ends to roots –gently. Wait 5 minutes or more, then rinse out gently. (Some folks like to loosely braid or twist hair for added control/ hair styling –but it’s not necessary). Natural air-drying is preferable to blow-drying.

Fine, oily, or limp hair -Fine hair can appear oily within hours of washing, so a co-wash only is not really needed as frequently as other hair types. Better to use a normal or light conditioner if you can comb your hair easily after shampooing. Apply conditioner away from roots and tips; leave in for 2-3 minutes. Rinse out gently. Hair Styling Between Co-washing
When co-washing, finger-styling or traditional hair styling okay, but must be done gently. Regarding hair styling products, the most important thing to remember is: don’t use too much.
