It doesn’t matter if your hair is short, long, straight, or wavy – dealing with hair that tangles easily is both painful and time-consuming. Here are some preventative measures to take so you can finally start your mornings tangle-free.
Never skip on conditioner
Every time you wash your hair, it is imperative that you follow up with conditioner to restore moisture. Apply conditioner immediately after washing out shampoo, and let it sit while you wash your body, shave, etc. The longer the conditioner can stay in your hair, the better. For even more moisture, consider using detangling botanical hair care, such as Shikakai powder.
Use a wide-tooth comb
Using a fine comb or brush immediately after a shower may be tempting, but it can also cause damage. Instead, detangle gently with a wide-tooth comb, starting at the bottom. If you must use a brush, invest in a detangling brush that is meant to be used on wet hair.
Prevent tangles while you sleep
Most of the tangles we encounter result from friction as we toss and turn at night. Before bed, place your hair in a loose braid or bun and secure with a soft scrunchie. You may also want to switch to a smooth satin pillowcase, as the softer material will help put an end to hair tangles and bedhead.
