As part of our hair routine, many of us blow-dry, straighten, or curl our strands, in addition to applying a variety of products. While these things may help tame or improve the look of our mane in the meantime, there’s no doubt that the steps in our routine can cause damage in the long run. Here are some mistakes you may be making that can cause damage to your hair.
You wash your hair every day.
When hair is washed every day, it is constantly stripped of its natural and protective oils. Switch to washing your hair every two or three days, using dry shampoo to extend the time between washes.
You use excess conditioner.
Conditioner should only be applied to the ends of your hair, which is where it truly needs hydration. To avoid greasiness, do not apply conditioner near your scalp.
You don’t use caution while brushing.
Resist from brushing your strands too often or using too much tension when your hair is wet. Since hair becomes weaker when it is wet, this can cause breakage.
You don’t protect it from the elements.
Always avoid excessive exposure from chlorine or the sun. They can strip your hair of essential oils and nutrients and leave it looking dry, dull, and brittle. If you color your hair, consider switching to henna hair dye, which offers UV protection.
